No, not Super Mario, SuperMayor – as in Doug Ford, the Mayor of all of Ontario. Some people thought that the political office that Ford most wanted was Mayor of Toronto and that the strong mayor system that he established there was for his use at some point. But it now appears that his goal is much more ambitious. He wants to be the super Mayor of all of Ontario.

In my last blog (Richard Tindal Blog - Tindal on Government (weebly.com), I lamented the large number of acclamations and the reduction in candidates standing for local election, and closed by urging folks to get out and vote and do their part to ensure a healthy democracy.
Apathetic Public We now know that this did not happen. Voting turnout was very low, only 33% across the province, down from the still anemic 38% turnout in 2018. Only 29% voted in the Toronto election, but that was still better than in a number of other municipalities – such as Brantford (27%), London (25%), Mississauga (21%), and Kitchener (20%). |
